Google has made a remarkable change to the user interface in the Chrome browser it developed for Android. The address bar can now be placed at the bottom of the screen instead of the top. This long-awaited feature has been made available to Android users as of today.
Google has introduced the long-awaited address bar innovation
The update offers significant convenience, especially for users who use smartphones with one hand. In today’s world where mobile device screens are getting bigger, reaching for the top of the screen was a challenge for many users. With the address bar being moved to the bottom of the screen, this access problem is eliminated.
This innovation is reminiscent of the change Apple made to its Safari browser in 2021 with iOS 15. At that time, Apple had provided a similar ease of use by moving the address bar to the bottom of the screen. Google took this step for iOS users in 2023. This feature had not been offered on the Android side until now. With the latest update, Android users also gained this flexibility.
In the new version of Chrome, it is quite easy to change the location of the address bar. When you long-press the address bar, an option to move it to the bottom position appears. Alternatively, you can choose the location by going to the “Address Bar” section in Chrome settings. Users can stay in the current layout if they want, this change is not mandatory.
The update has started to be distributed as of today. The feature will reach all users in a few weeks. Those who want to move the address bar to the bottom of the screen need to make sure that they have the latest version of Chrome installed on their devices.
