Google is adding satellite connectivity to the Messages app!

Apple introduced the emergency satellite connectivity system with the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models, which helps in exceptional situations when you are outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage areas. In response to this, Google also pledged satellite connectivity with Android 14 for its users.

While the feature in question is not yet in use, the company has laid the software foundation for it. Qualcomm announced that it will provide specialized hardware in Snapdragon chips. Google, on the other hand, is adding a component to the Messages app designed for emergency calls over satellite.

Social media was divided: Did Google quietly change its logo?

Has the Google logo changed? An image circulating on the internet revealed a different drawing with a similar look.

According to information shared by Mishaal Rahman on Twitter (X), the company has started adding UI elements for emergency calls via satellite to the Messages app. As per Rahman’s report, the emergency call feature currently stands as a placeholder.

Google prefers integrating this support into the messaging app rather than creating a new application. However, Google has not made any statements about which phones will support this feature. Nevertheless, satellite support will depend on the device’s modem hardware. In other words, not every device running Android 14 will have satellite connectivity.
