Google has made a significant update to the use of 3D buildings for drivers in its Maps app. Introduced gradually since January, the 3D buildings feature is now fully available on Android and has been integrated to work seamlessly with Android Auto.
Expanding the 3D Buildings feature for drivers on Google Maps
This feature becomes active in navigation mode when traveling between two points. Especially when driving in an unfamiliar city, the addition of more realistic buildings helps drivers better understand their location and orientation.
However, this feature is not always on by default, so if you regularly use the Google Maps app, you may need to enable it. Here’s how to activate and use the 3D buildings:
- Access Profile Settings: Open the Google Maps app and click on your profile. This is usually located in the top right corner and will show your profile picture if you are logged in.
- Go to Settings Menu: Open the settings menu and navigate to the ‘Navigation’ option.
- Activate the 3D Buildings Feature: Within the navigation settings, find the ‘Show 3D Buildings’ option and enable it. This feature allows the display of 3D buildings when you zoom in sufficiently on the map.
This feature has also been extended to Android Auto and CarPlay. Now, drivers using these systems can see 3D buildings on their in-car displays. This means that the settings made on their phones automatically synchronize with their in-car systems without the need for any additional settings.
Google Maps’ 3D buildings feature is particularly useful when driving through complex intersections or unclear routes in cities. It enhances the display of buildings in more detail and three dimensions, helping drivers better connect the physical world with digital maps.
Google aims to further improve users’ navigation experiences with this innovation and make Google Maps more suitable for modern navigation needs. What do you think about this new feature provided by Google Maps for drivers? Do you think this feature will meet user expectations? You can write your thoughts in the comments section below.
