Google Maps now routing the eco-friendly navigation

Ana sayfa / Operating System

With the latest update on Google Maps, Google is trying to save money on fuel and reduce carbon emissions. The maps application lets you choose your engine types like EV, hybrid, and others for more fuel-efficient directions. Here are the details about eco-friendly routing.

Google Maps helped remove tons of carbon emissions

The company launched eco-friendly routing on Google Maps in the US and Canada last year. Additionally, Google announces, “Since launching in the U.S. and Canada, it’s already estimated to have helped remove more than half a million metric tons of carbon emissions – equivalent to taking 100,000 fuel-based cars off the road.”

Google also announced that the new feature is launching to users in nearly 40 European countries, including France, Ireland, Poland, Spain, and the UK. The company launched the eco-friendly routing on Google Maps in Germany last month.

With the new feature, you can specify your car engine if your car is a diesel, gas, hybrid, or EV. When you choose your car’s engine type, the navigation will offer you the best option to drive on an eco-friendly route. You will access these options by going into “Route options” and adding an “Engine Type.”

The company aims to reduce users’ fuel consumption and carbon emissions, as seen in the images above. Google maps will route the ways according to the specs of your engines. For example, Google Maps will route people with diesel-powered vehicles along a high-speed freeway because diesel engines are more efficient in this way. Also, someone with a hybrid or electric vehicle could get offers to drive on surface streets because EV cars have a better advantage of regenerative braking.
