Google Maps, being the most widely used navigation application worldwide, is a go-to for users, especially when they are in an unfamiliar place. This app is used even more than its closest competitor, Apple Maps. Therefore, a new addition has been made to the app, which receives continuous updates. Now, you can leave a mark on your favorite places with emojis.
Google Maps now has a feature for marking locations with emojis
In the Google Maps app, you can create a list of places you want to visit or your favorite places by tapping on the “Saved” tab at the bottom of the screen. Google has announced that with the new update to the Google Maps app, you can customize your saved places with emojis to “help you find your favorite spots faster” in your Google Maps account.
Emojis are the same as the emojis you find in messages. Therefore, you can use emojis like the food emoji to symbolize a saved restaurant, the sports emoji for your fitness gym, or any emoji you prefer.
To add an emoji, open Google Maps and tap on the “Saved” tab at the bottom of the screen. Here, you’ll need to create your own list or edit an existing one you’ve created. In a video shared by Google, they create a new list called “Favorite Coffee Spots.” Then, they select an emoji and add a description. After that, all you need to do is add places to the list.
Once you’ve filled in the list, when you see one of these points in Google Maps and are close to that location, you will see the selected emoji next to the place’s name. If you zoom out the map, you will only see the emoji. Google made this change because emojis can convey more information to the user compared to a pinned marker on the map.
With this feature, using emojis, you can quickly identify whether a specific point on the map is one of your favorite cafes, your preferred ice cream shop, or a frequently visited shopping place without having to tap on the location. With a variety of emojis to choose from, users can utilize them to find their favorite spots in the app more quickly.
