Google is adding a significant innovation to the Google Maps app, used in vehicles with built-in lane guidance. The app is adding a feature called “live lane guidance.”
Google Maps has added lane detection
This feature will allow the navigation system to detect the current lane the vehicle is in and adjust directions accordingly. This system aims to provide users with personalized and accurate guidance while driving.
For example, if the vehicle is traveling in the left lane and the exit is on the right, the system automatically detects this. The Maps app immediately provides visual and audio alerts, informing the driver of the need to change lanes in a timely manner. This technology will significantly reduce the risk of making wrong turns, especially on unfamiliar or complex roads.
This live lane detection feature is powered by advanced technology. The vehicle’s front camera instantly detects lane markings and traffic signs on the road.
This collected data is then analyzed in detail by artificial intelligence and transferred to the Google Maps app in real-time. This integration allows the app to provide accurate lane-based guidance.
Google plans to roll out this new lane guidance feature within the next few months. The first vehicle brand to integrate the feature will be Polestar 4.
However, initially, this feature will only be available to Polestar 4 users in the US and Sweden. Google aims to expand the feature’s reach by collaborating with more vehicle brands and integrating different road types into the system.
