Google Photos Veo 3 Update Brings Free AI Video Magic to Your Camera Roll

Ana sayfa / News

Google Photos just got a surprising upgrade: free users in the U.S. can now animate their favorite snapshots using Veo 3, the company’s advanced AI video model. With just a few taps, still images are transformed into short, silent videos, no subscription required.

Inside the Create tab in Google Photos, users can now choose between two animation options:

Each animation results in a 4-second clip, making your stills feel more like short, looping moments than basic slideshows.

The tool uses Veo 3, Google’s latest AI video generation model, which improves on the older Veo 2 with better detail, sharper motion rendering, and enhanced realism.

Previously exclusive to Google’s high-tier “AI Ultra” plan at $250/month, Veo 3 was introduced earlier this year at Google I/O. It wowed developers and creators with its ability to generate realistic video, complete with AI-generated sound, text-to-video capabilities, and even voice-delivered avatars in companion tools like Vids.

Now, even free-tier Photos users can access parts of that power. While the sound features are restricted to paid plans, the image-to-video animation is now available to everyone, though with a daily generation limit for free accounts.

Unlike traditional photo editing, Veo 3 adds dimension to photos without needing multiple images or video input. It’s not about transitions or filters, it’s about simulating motion from stillness.

Even better, users don’t need editing skills. A few taps, and your camera roll starts moving.

Free users can animate only a limited number of images per day. You won’t get sound generation or access to longer clips unless you’re on a Pro or Ultra plan. But for quick content, fun social posts, or animated memories, it’s a surprisingly powerful tool.

The feature is now live in the Google Photos Create tab. No downloads, no noise, just quiet, AI-driven movement, now in your pocket.
