Google’s anticipated Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are slated for an impressive overhaul, notably in their display technology, reveals a credible source. Compared to last year’s Pixel 7 lineup, the upcoming Pixel versions promise significant enhancements.

Revamping refresh rates and boosting brightness

Among these upgrades, one can expect the Pixel 8 to feature a jump in its maximum refresh rate, transitioning from 90Hz in Pixel 7 to 120Hz. While the Pixel 8 Pro will retain the 120Hz refresh rate, the overall spectrum of available refresh rates in both models will be expanded, potentially leading to enhanced battery performance.

The brightness specifications will also witness a dramatic upgrade. Reports suggest that the HDR brightness in Pixel 8 could go up to a whopping 1,400 nits, while the Pixel 8 Pro could max out at 1,600 nits. For comparison, the HDR brightness in both the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro topped at 1,000 nits.

Shifting dimensions, maintaining resolutions

Interestingly, the screen sizes are projected to be reduced slightly. The Pixel 8 is said to feature a 6.17-inch screen, a marginal reduction from the previous 6.3 inches, but still upholding the same 2400 x 1800 pixel resolution. As for the Pixel 8 Pro, it will reportedly sport a 6.70-inch screen, instead of 6.71 inches, with a 2992 x 1344 pixel resolution, slightly lower than the Pixel 7 Pro’s 3120 x 1440 pixels.

This subtle shift in dimensions and resolutions translates into the pixel-per-inch count for Pixel 8 rising to 427 from 417, while the Pixel 8 Pro will see a decrease from 512 to 490.

A change in panel sourcing

The crux behind these adjustments seems to revolve around Google’s decision to source new display panels. There are reports of larger corner radiuses and a transition from curved to a completely flat screen for the Pixel 8 Pro, akin to the Pixel 7 and 8, differing from the 7 Pro’s curved display.

Overall, the whispers surrounding the Pixel 8 line are enticing. Coupled with the significant display enhancements, both in terms of refresh rates and brightness, these transformations may offer potential customers strong incentives to opt for the Pixel 8.

Rumors are also circulating about improvements in performance and superior camera modules for the Pixel 8 phones. With a speculated built-in thermometer and an anticipated launch around October, it will be interesting to see how these upgrades will play out in the real-world usage.
