Google unveiled the budget-friendly Pixel 7a at the I/O 2023 event last May. A few months after the smartphone’s announcement, the first information about the Google Pixel 8a leaked. The affordable device appeared on the Geekbench list with Android 14.
First information comes for Google Pixel 8a “Akita”
The Pixel 8a, seen in the Geekbench listing, is being developed under the code name “Akita”. According to the listing, it will be powered by the Google Tensor G3 processor produced in collaboration with Samsung and will boost performance with 8GB of RAM. It is also – at least for now – being tested with Android 14.
In Geekbench benchmarks, it scored 1218 points in single-core tests and 3175 points in multi-core tests. However, these figures are even lower than the Pixek 7a, raising doubts.
The Tensor G3 chipset is expected to power the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro models that will debut later this year. Considering that the Pixel 8a will be a lower-priced device, it may be running a lower clock speed version.
The Pixel 8a is still very early in development, but it is expected to be similar in design to the Pixel 7a released this year. Google is also rumored not to update the display. This means it will feature a 6.1-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90Hz/120Hz.

Other expected features include wireless charging, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and IP67 certification for dust and water resistance. The possible launch date of the Pixel 8a seems to be the I/O 2024 event next year.
