The highly anticipated Google Pixel Fold seems to be nearing its official debut, with recent leaks providing more insight into the folding phone. A short video leak shows the folding mechanism in action for the first time, adding to the excitement surrounding the device.

A week full of leaks

The leaked video comes from renowned tipster Kuba Wojciechowski on Twitter (via 9to5Google). While the software interface is blurred out, viewers can observe the rounded edges of the foldable phone’s frame, the outer display, and a seemingly robust hinge. However, the video is too brief to draw many conclusions from it.

This week, reports indicated that the Pixel Fold could outperform competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 in terms of durability. Given that the Samsung device is rated for 200,000 folds, Google’s version is expected to surpass this figure.

Leaked specs suggest that the Pixel Fold will feature a Google Tensor G2 chip, 12GB of RAM, and either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. Color options include white or black. The same source also hinted at a teaser on April 26, followed by a grand unveiling at Google IO 2023, which kicks off on May 10. However, the device might not hit the market until June or July.

A major year for Google hardware

Google’s hardware department is gearing up for an eventful year. In addition to the Pixel Fold, the Google Pixel 7a is expected to be unveiled at Google IO. Meanwhile, the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel Tablet are also on the horizon, as well as a possible Pixel Watch 2.

The Pixel Fold marks a new venture for the company, as foldable devices are still relatively new to the market. With Apple holding off on foldables for the time being, it will be interesting to see how well the Pixel Fold performs and whether there’s a demand for it. Pricing will be a crucial factor, and the Pixel Fold is unlikely to come cheap.
