The Emergency SOS feature on Google Pixel phones can cause some users some pretty unfortunate moments. According to a story shared on Reddit, a user accidentally activated the feature while trying to turn off their morning alarm and sent their nude videos to 12 emergency contacts. After the alarm, the phone sent a video link containing the user’s nude images along with notifications and location information about the emergency. The user described the situation as follows: “I picked up the phone, looked at the screen (still sleepy). I started seeing notifications like ‘calling 911’ and it said that the location was being sent to emergency contacts about something.”
Google Pixel’s Emergency feature made a big mistake
Unfortunately, when the emergency SOS feature that took place after the alarm was activated, the phone immediately caught the attention of her friends, but they became suspicious of the phone sending nude videos rather than their security concerns. The user shared the situation on Reddit and added a censored screenshot of her nude self under a title.
The Emergency SOS feature on Google’s Pixel phones is generally designed to allow users to get help in an emergency. This feature allows users to call for emergency assistance by pressing the phone’s power button five times, providing instant access to emergency services and sending location information to emergency contacts. However, this feature can also be activated accidentally in some cases. The user accidentally triggered the SOS feature while trying to turn off their alarm, and the phone automatically recorded a video and sent it to emergency contacts. This video can be recorded for up to 45 minutes and is backed up to the cloud. The video link is automatically sent to emergency contacts, and they can download the videos through this link. Although it is a very useful feature for emergencies, it can have undesirable consequences, such as sending naked videos.
Google recommends that users enable a confirmation step in the Emergency SOS feature to prevent such mistakes. This allows users to cancel sending the video within 15 seconds after recording a video. In addition, this feature not only sends a video, but also calls emergency services and shares the user’s real-time location with emergency contacts. However, when this feature is triggered unintentionally, it can lead to serious personal and privacy issues. Google encourages users to be careful with the Emergency SOS feature and take the necessary precautions to avoid such unwanted situations.
