Google is making major changes to the Play Store, making the app discovery and customization experience more user-friendly. While a number of new features have been added, a special section especially for manga lovers stands out. Here are the details…
Finding apps on Google Play Store is now much easier
The Google Play Store is introducing various innovations to improve users’ experience in finding and keeping track of apps. The most striking of these is the home screen widget called “Collections”. This widget allows users to follow the developments in their apps and receive recommendations. Users can change the design of the widget between full screen, a single-line bar or a few icons.
For example, the “Watch” category offers video recommendations for YouTube and other streaming services, while the “Continue Watching” section takes users back to a TV show or movie where they left off.
The “Listen” category offers recommendations for music and podcast content, while the “Shop” category shows deals and active shopping carts that may be of interest to you. The Collections widget is available for download in the Google Play Store, but may not yet be available to all users.
Google is making more use of artificial intelligence in the Play Store to improve the user experience. At the last I/O 2024 event, it added AI-generated reviews to the platform.
With this update, AI will provide information to users by comparing software in similar categories. The comparison page details an app’s most notable features, how many times it has been downloaded and what it does.
In addition, interest filters are added to the search bar for games. These filters make it easier for users to find the types of games they are most interested in. Google is also adding “Personalization” to the Play Store to help users manage their app data.
This feature allows shared or unshared data to directly affect the listings shown to the user. For example, removing the permission to share data from the Fitness app will make fitness-related software less visible.
One of the most striking new features of the Google Play Store is the “Comics” section, which has been added exclusively for Japan. Google has partnered with Japanese publishers to create a section dedicated to manga and manga-related content.
This section includes content such as first chapter previews, editor’s picks, fan reviews and trailers. Despite the huge popularity of manga around the world, it is not yet known when this section will be available in other regions.
You can take advantage of these new features by downloading the latest version of the app. What do you think? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
