Tech giant Google is making a significant change in the streaming device market. The company has announced that it will cease production of its popular Google Chromecast devices, which have been around since 2013. This decision highlights the evolution of streaming technology over the past decade. Here’s why Google made this decision…

According to Google’s official announcement, Chromecast devices will be available for sale only until stocks run out. However, the company stated that it will continue to provide software and security updates for newer models. It is not yet clear which models will continue to receive support.

The new device replacing Chromecast is the Google TV Streamer, set to launch on September 24. Priced at $99.99, this new device offers significant hardware improvements compared to Chromecast with Google TV. The Google TV Streamer features a processor that is 22% faster and supports smart home technologies like Thread and Matter integration.

Google declares war on fake AI content!

Google has declared war on fake images and videos produced by artificial intelligence. Accordingly, Google is preparing an algorithm update.

Google attributes this change to the dramatic evolution of technology. The company noted that it has made significant investments in integrating Google Cast technology into millions of TV devices and Android TV.

While Google’s announcement did not provide specifics, it is clear that the Chromecast’s low price point of $29 was not generating substantial revenue for Google. Even in 2024, the device managed to offer an entry-level experience at a very affordable price.
