Huge clean energy investment from Google!

Ana sayfa / News

In addition to technology, Google also attaches importance to clean energy. The company announced its largest ever offshore wind deal to reduce pollution from data centers in the Netherlands. Here are the details of the agreement made by Google for the wind farm…

Google has signed power purchase agreements for two new wind farms off the coast of the Netherlands. This agreement is very important. Because this agreement is the largest ever for Google to purchase offshore wind energy for its data centers in Europe. With this agreement, Google announced that it will add more than 700 megawatts of clean energy capacity to the grid.

In fact, with this agreement, Google plans to match all data center electricity consumption with 24/7 clean energy production by 2030. For this, his company will also use offshore wind passing through electricity grids. Thus, it will help to obtain more renewable energy.

Historic update for Google Assistant! What will change?

Google says data centers in the Netherlands could reach 90 percent clean energy this year. Also, Google is not satisfied with the Netherlands. However, Italy made agreements to benefit from power plants in Poland and Belgium.

Of course, there is one detail we should forget. Google’s clean energy plans are simply to match electricity use with carbon-free energy purchases. So data centers don’t just run on renewable energy. Because this renewable energy accounts for approximately 40% of the Netherlands’ electricity production.

In fact, technology companies do not work with renewable energy. By renewable energy they mean the payments they make for Renewable Energy Certificates, or RECs. A renewable energy generator sells REC for every megawatt-hour of electricity produced by a wind farm. Thanks to this source of income, the development of new clean energy projects will be supported.
