In its statement, Google claimed that manually downloaded third-party applications on phones stored personal information such as account passwords and that this information was being used for illegal purposes such as fraud. Users are advised to be very cautious about this and to avoid installing applications on their phones that are not available on the Play Store unless absolutely necessary.
Additionally, Google stated that almost all third-party applications carry some form of virus and that this virus could spread to the device, allowing it to steal the user’s sensitive personal data. It is well known that the one-time SMS reading permission requested when registering for these applications is very dangerous.
Users in Singapore attempting to download such third-party applications on their Android phones are automatically met with a warning from Google, and the download is canceled directly. It is claimed that the company is collaborating with the Singapore Cyber Security Agency for this purpose.
Google has previously taken stringent measures against third-party applications, making headlines. In 2023, the company developed special security software for India, through which many harmful third-party applications were blocked.
