In the ongoing lawsuit between Epic Games and Google, remarkable new documents have emerged. Accordingly, it was stated that Google wanted to buy Epic Games for its cloud-based gaming service Stadia and Android. The company wanted to make Fortnite exclusive to its own platforms.
Google is buying Epic Games?
Google’s 2018 strategy codenamed “Project Elektra” has been revealed. It was stated that the company wanted to buy a 20 percent stake in Epic Games for 2 billion dollars. In this way, the Fortnite and Unreal Engine developer would have a say in the products.
Some emails shared by Google President Don Harrison show that Epic Games wants to buy all rights. This Fortnite-focused move was aimed at making the game exclusive to both Android and Stadia.
Although it has lost some of its popularity today, it is important to remember that Fortnite broke records in 2018. The game, which made a big impact in the battle royale world with PUBG, has also become a cult game in the gaming world. Google also wanted to bring Fortnite’s success to Stadia.
In addition, some of the offers Google made to Epic Games behind closed doors were revealed. It was stated that he offered 150 million dollars to bring the battle royale game to the Google Play Store, but the company refused. Epic released Fortnite to Android on its own platform in 2020.
Documents revealed in the lawsuit revealed Google’s interest in Epic in 2018. Although there is no official connection between the two companies, it seems to have led Epic to develop its own game store.
