Google Weather App Change: Say Goodbye to the App

Ana sayfa / News

A significant Google Weather app change is rolling out to Android users, as the company is discontinuing its classic full-screen experience. For years, users have enjoyed a dedicated interface for their forecasts, but this is coming to an end. Instead of the beloved standalone app, the home screen shortcut now redirects users directly to web search results, marking a major shift in how weather information is delivered on the platform.

How the New Google Weather App Change Works

Previously, tapping the weather shortcut on the home screen launched a special interface, often featuring the charming weather frog, Froggy. This dedicated screen provided detailed data at a glance, including wind speed, humidity, UV index, and pressure, all in a user-friendly format. However, the updated system completely removes this experience. Now, the same shortcut instantly takes you to a standard Google Search page for the weather.

This means that when you scroll down, you will no longer see an extended forecast within an app but rather the usual list of web results you would expect from any search query. This change fundamentally alters the user journey for checking daily weather conditions.

The Move Towards an AI-Powered, Unified Platform

In this new interface, Google is heavily utilizing AI-generated summaries to present current weather conditions. This system introduces new data points like wind and air quality through practical drop-down menus. Despite these additions, a key feature has been removed: the button at the bottom of the screen that previously opened the full-screen app is now gone. Consequently, users are limited to the information available directly within the search engine.

This decision has sparked discussion on platforms like Reddit, with many users expressing that the new system lacks the elegance and convenience of the old app. It is likely that Google’s goal is to consolidate its services and avoid maintaining two separate weather experiences. By making the search engine the single hub for information, the company streamlines its ecosystem. Although the transition has not yet reached all devices, it is expected that access to the old interface will be permanently cut off for all users in the near future.
