When AI devices like Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1 were introduced, they created quite a buzz. They were seen as heralding a new era of artificial intelligence. But what happened this week? We witnessed the astonishing capabilities of OpenAI’s GPT-4o model and Google’s Gemini project. It seems these models will make devices like AI Pin and Rabbit R1 obsolete. Here’s why…
GPT-4o and Gemini Overshadow AI Pin and Rabbit R1
When Humane introduced AI Pin last year, it garnered attention as a screenless device operated entirely by voice commands. Essentially, it allowed you to leave your phone in your pocket and handle everything just by speaking. Rabbit R1, on the other hand, was an AI assistant capable of using phone applications on your behalf. While these devices seemed impressive at first glance, they appeared to be solving problems that weren’t really necessary.
However, this is where the major shift begins. OpenAI’s GPT-4o model and Google’s Gemini seem poised to eliminate the need for such devices. GPT-4o manages voice commands flawlessly and even allows you to ask questions about images and videos. This means the possibilities of what you can do by just talking to your phone are now limitless.
Google Gemini, meanwhile, integrates into all Google applications. For example, if you want to plan a vacation, you can say, “We’re going to Miami, my son loves art, my spouse wants seafood, can you create an itinerary for us?” Gemini can then pull flight and hotel information from Gmail to create a personalized itinerary for you. Although it can’t yet handle reservations and payments, it’s anticipated to do so in the future.
AI Pin’s major selling point was its flawless voice command management. However, GPT-4o takes this much further and eliminates concerns such as battery life. Additionally, instead of devices like Rabbit R1, you can use all the AI-powered features offered by Gemini directly on your phone. Moreover, it’s much more economical and practical to use these services on your existing phone rather than purchasing a new device.
OpenAI and Google’s moves seem set to significantly shrink the market for devices like AI Pin and Rabbit R1. By offering more integrated AI solutions on our phones and daily lives, GPT-4o and Gemini save us time and make our lives easier. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
