Great news for Starfield!

Bethesda’s space-themed role-playing game Starfield, launched with high hopes, is preparing to expand beyond its Xbox exclusive status and launch on new platforms. Recent reports, causing a stir in the gaming world, indicate that the game will be released for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo’s next-generation console, Switch 2, in the first half of 2026.

This decision, taken as part of Microsoft’s “Project Latitude” strategy, aims to bring Starfield to other consoles not just as a port, but with a comprehensive revamp.

The fact that 2026 coincides with Xbox’s 25th and Bethesda’s 40th anniversaries adds symbolic significance to this multi-platform move. Another strategic reason for the studio choosing this timeline is to avoid the sales pressure of the expected GTA 6, guaranteeing commercial success.

The new console versions of Starfield aren’t just about changing platforms; they’re bringing a massively updated version focusing on the game’s most criticized aspects. According to Windows Central, Bethesda is significantly reducing loading screen lag through technical improvements to the Creation Engine 2.

This update makes space travel smoother and more fluid; transitions between planets, space stations, and surfaces are redesigned to keep the player grounded on Earth.

This transformation, likened to “Cyberpunk 2.0” in the industry, encompasses modernization of many systems, from the menu structure to the user interface. Furthermore, the game’s exploration dynamics are enriched with more diverse content, aiming to avoid the repetitive nature of the original version.
