The winner has been determined in the race between two of the gaming world’s biggest giants. Bethesda’s legendary Todd Howard clearly explained the timing between the highly anticipated GTA 6 release date and his own studio’s The Elder Scrolls VI at an event.

Speaking at the premiere of Amazon’s Fallout series, Howard confirmed that Rockstar Games’ masterpiece will be released before Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls VI project. When asked, “Do you think it will be released next year?”, the renowned director replied, “Yes, I do. Rockstar is doing a fantastic job,” putting an end to the controversy.
This statement aligns with industry expectations. Rockstar Games is known to be targeting November 19, 2026 (Take-Two fiscal calendar) for the GTA 6 release date. Things are slower on the Bethesda front. Last month, Howard stated that The Elder Scrolls VI was “still a long way off.” Considering the studio’s development schedule, it would be a miracle if The Elder Scrolls arrives before the end of 2027.
Now that the lineup is finalized, there’s more bad news for Bethesda fans regarding Fallout 5. With the studio currently focused on The Elder Scrolls VI, a new Fallout game isn’t on the horizon. Howard’s confidence and praise for Rockstar also suggests that GTA 6 will arrive on the announced date without any delays.
