Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode has been plagued by a lack of content and technical issues since its release. Accordingly, the battle royale mode for Halo Infinite, a mode that developer 343 Industries was once working on, has been canceled. So why was this mode canceled?
Canceled Halo Infinite battle royale mode revealed
New information about 343 Industries’ planned but canceled battle royale mode for Halo Infinite has surfaced. According to sources, the studio was working on a battle royale mode codenamed Tatanka. It was working in collaboration with Certain Affinity.

Tatanka was designed to be a massive multiplayer mode that would push the boundaries of the Halo battle royale experience. It would take place in different areas on the Halo map. Players would participate in matches via landing pods and switch between tracks using equipment such as drop cannons.
343 Industries was conducting internal playtesting of Tatanka on a weekly basis. The mod also included story elements from Halo Infinite. Mini-objectives would reward players with power-ups and partial shields, and downed players would turn into AI.
But after the departure of key figures from 343 Industries, the new team decided to replace Tatanka. Eventually, they canceled development and shelved the battle royale mode. It is thought that 343 did not have enough resources to make battle royale competitive with other games.
Last year, both Tatanka and a new Halo game were shelved. This highlights the studio’s ambitious but fruitless efforts to bring its big ambitions to players.
