Tesla’s electric truck model Semi draws attention as a long-awaited project. However, bad news about this project continues to come. Tesla Semi was introduced in 2017 and it was announced that production would start in 2019.
Bad news from Tesla’s electric truck project
Although many years have passed, mass production of the Tesla Semi has still not materialised. In late 2022, Tesla introduced the ‘production version’ and delivered the first trucks to major customers such as PepsiCo. However, these deliveries were limited and the actual production process never started.

Tesla was aiming to move to large-scale production in 2025 and produce 50,000 vehicles per year. However, this goal has been postponed once again. Although the company has started building a new production facility in Nevada, uncertainties remain about the production and timing of the Tesla Semi.
In addition to these delays, it is also claimed that there has been a dramatic increase in the prices of Tesla’s electric truck. Logistics company Ryder, one of Tesla’s early customers; bringing these delays and price increases to the agenda, announced that while they had previously planned to buy 42 trucks, they are now considering buying only 18 trucks.
In the first introduction of Tesla Semi, the price of the model offering a range of 480 km was set at $ 150,000, and the price of the 800 km version was set at $ 180,000. However, although Tesla has not made an official statement on price increases, many speculations indicate that prices will increase dramatically.
One of the expected benefits of Tesla Semi being electric was that it could operate at lower fuel costs compared to diesel trucks. However, price increases and delays in the production process caused these advantages to be discussed.
