HBO Max is making a documentary about the Palu family!

Ana sayfa / News

The Palu family case, which has been a major focus of Turkish television and recent crime dramas, is being adapted into a documentary by the digital content platform HBO Max. This development comes shortly after Netflix previously announced it would produce a documentary on the Münevver Karabulut murder. HBO Max has acquired the Turkish broadcast rights to the Palu family documentary.

The Palu family, still considered one of Turkey’s most controversial and unusual crime stories, first came to public attention in 2018-2019 when they appeared on the program Müge Anlı ile Tatlı Sert. The family appeared on the program to search for a missing member, but subsequent events led to the case taking an unexpected and complex turn.

The documentary, produced by HBO Max, explores the case from an investigative journalism perspective. The production will go beyond what viewers saw in the media at the time and focus on the behind-the-scenes details of the case.

The documentary showcases critical information such as the investigation processes, court testimony, and eyewitness accounts. No firm release date has been set yet for the documentary. HBO Max’s move demonstrates the growing interest of platforms in covering notable and controversial events in Turkey.

Digital platforms’ focus on this type of true crime content is directly linked to the growing interest of global audiences. The ability of complex and high-profile cases to become internationally acclaimed content is intensifying competition between giants like HBO Max and Netflix in this area.

Producing such high-profile cases in Turkey in a documentary format is expected to attract both local and global audiences, thereby boosting the platforms’ subscriber base.
