The legendary film series, Harry Potter, is being adapted into a television series. Warner Bros., which owns the rights to Harry Potter, officially announced the series in a presentation to the press and investors on April 12th. The series, which will air on HBO Max, is being promoted as a decade-long project.
When will the Harry Potter series be released?
Warner Bros. will adapt the Harry Potter book series for HBO Max with a unique approach. According to Bloomberg, the new project will feature each book spanning one season. Considering there are a total of seven books, this suggests we could see a seven-season series.
Previously, a similar leak revealed that Hogwarts Legacy, set in the Harry Potter universe, would also become a series. However, sources speaking to Bloomberg stated that Harry Potter and Hogwarts Legacy would be separate adaptations. This means HBO is working on two different projects within the Harry Potter universe.
It’s still unclear who will be involved in the project. However, Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter, has stated that he doesn’t want to play the role anymore. Thus, it’s a matter of curiosity who will portray the main character in the series.
If the deal is finalized, Warner Bros. will compete with Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Netflix’s The Witcher, House of the Dragon, and other fantasy book adaptations. Additionally, Warner Bros. repeatedly emphasized that the series would remain faithful to the books.
The series, likely to consist of seven seasons, is still in its early development stage. Furthermore, since the writing staff has not yet been revealed, the script has not been fully written. Therefore, the release date for the Harry Potter series remains uncertain.
