There was a dispute between Elon Musk and the court
For those who missed it, Brazil’s Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes recently ordered the closure of the accounts of some users accused of spreading fake news and hate messages on X (Twitter) while the country was under the former government.
Subsequently, the social media platform complied with this decision and blocked access to the accounts. However, after a while, the CEO of the company, Elon Musk, announced that the closed accounts would be reopened and a dispute started between the court and Musk.
Elon Musk challenged the court decision and even stated that this account closure request is against the country’s constitution. He even demanded the resignation of Alexandre de Moraes, the judge who made the decision.
Today, the judge included Elon Musk in the investigation, accusing him of obstruction of justice. Stating that X (Twitter) must refrain from disobeying the court order, the judge also said that the company will be fined $19,740 per day until the accounts in question are closed again.
The businessman emphasized that his principles are more important than money, despite the risk of losing all his revenues in Brazil and the threats of arrest of his employees, along with the closure of his office there. X (Twitter) will fight this account blocking decision legally. We will see how this struggle will turn out.
It is also worth noting that it is not known whether the people accused of spreading fake news and hate messages on X (Twitter) while the Brazilian government was in power were within the limits of freedom of expression.
