Feature phones aren’t dead; they’ve just found their lane. HMD Global proves that again with the launch of the HMD 101 4G and its slightly upgraded twin, the HMD 102 4G. Priced from just $22, these compact devices bring back essentials like a headphone jack, MP3 player, and of course, the timeless game of Snake.

Both phones stick to the basics. You get a 2.0-inch display with a grainy 160 x 120 resolution, a Unisoc 8910FF-S chip, and a simple 24 MB RAM + 16 MB storage combo. These specs won’t win benchmarks, but they’re enough for calls, texts, and a few lightweight apps.

The HMD 102 4G does go a step further with a rear-facing camera. But with just 0.08 MP, it’s more of a checkbox than a useful shooter. At least there’s an LED flash that works as a flashlight, practical, if not flashy.

Garmin Fenix 8 Pro Gets First Software Update With Key Fixes

Garmin’s new Fenix 8 Pro receives its first major update, System Software 18.41, bringing bug fixes and Messenger improvements.

No browsers, no social apps. Just the essentials. But that’s the point. You still get LTE for checking the weather or news, and the S30+ system is light, snappy, and comes with Snake pre-installed.

The 1,000 mAh battery may sound small, but with such a lightweight OS and low-res screen, it pulls 6.5 hours of talk time. Charging is via USB-C rare for phones in this price bracket. Even the IP52 splash resistance adds a touch of reassurance for rough pockets or rainy days.

Priced at ₹1,899 ($22) and ₹2,199 ($25), the HMD 101 4G and 102 4G aren’t pretending to be smartphones. They’re made for minimalists, travelers, or anyone who just wants a reliable second phone that won’t constantly nag for updates.

Sometimes, less really is enough.
