After the work stoppage initiated by the writers on May 2nd, the strike has started to expand further. According to today’s news, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), with a membership of 160,000, have also joined the strike.
SAG and AFTRA announced that they decided to participate in this strike due to their failure to reach a resolution with television production companies regarding job security and salary guarantees. The union is also demanding fair profit distribution from platforms such as Amazon and Netflix.
Furthermore, they expressed their desire for better working conditions. They also demanded restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence in productions. With the decision to strike, 160,000 performing artists will cease their work.
