On Samsung phones, too many apps running in the background can cause the device to slow down and drain the battery quickly. To prevent this, Samsung offers the option to put unused apps into sleep mode.
How to close background apps on Samsung brand phones?
To manage unnecessary apps running in the background, you can go to Settings > Battery > Background Usage Limits and enable the Sleep Unused Apps option. This feature automatically puts apps that you haven’t opened for a while into sleep mode, preventing unnecessary system resource consumption.

There are two different options to manually put apps into sleep mode:
- Sleeping apps: Apps in this category only run occasionally in the background, so notifications may be delayed. It is suitable for services such as social media, gaming, and video streaming apps.
- Deep sleeping apps: These apps never run in the background and only become active when they are opened. However, you won’t receive notifications from apps in this mode. It is ideal for Samsung’s pre-installed but unused apps such as AR Zone, Galaxy Themes, AR Emoji Editor, Samsung Max, Samsung Kids.
To put certain apps to sleep, go to the Sleeping apps or Deep sleep apps tab, tap the + icon and select the apps you want to add to the list. Some apps need to be constantly running in the background to function properly.
These are called memory resident apps. However, having too many of these apps running can negatively impact performance. To see which apps are constantly running, go to Settings > Device maintenance > Memory > Memory Resident Apps.
These steps will help improve the performance of your Samsung phone and extend its battery life. However, it is important not to add too many apps to Deep Sleep mode, as these apps may take a little longer to load when they need to be opened.
