WhatsApp offers a great feature to avoid receiving messages from people you don’t want: Block. However, if you are on the blocked side, it can be a bit frustrating. So how do you know if someone has blocked you on WhatsApp?
How do you know if you’ve been blocked on WhatsApp?
As with social media like Twitter, WhatsApp doesn’t notify you if you’ve been blocked. But there are of course a few ways to find out if you have been blocked by a specific user.
If the person’s WhatsApp profile picture and status do not change:
This is hard to verify, but once you are blocked on WhatsApp, the blocker’s profile picture and status will no longer be updated for you.
If you know someone who has the blocker’s WhatsApp, you can ask them if their profile picture or status has changed. If it has changed there and you have the same status as before, you’re in the past. You are blocked.
If their last seen disappears:
One of the most popular features of WhatsApp is the “last seen” function. The disappearance of this notification, which shows when the user was last online, may be an indication that you have been blocked.
Of course, in order to understand that you have been blocked in this way, the last seen feature of this person must be turned on beforehand. Because this is a feature that can be turned on and off. It may not have blocked you, but only turned off the last seen.
If messages are not delivered and calls fail:
You cannot send a message or make a call to someone who has blocked you, and your message usually remains as a single tick. When a message on WhatsApp is one tick, it means that the message has reached WhatsApp servers but has not been delivered to the person.
Two ticks means that the message has been forwarded and a blue tick means that the message has been opened and read. Therefore, a single tick means that the message has not been forwarded.
If your messages remain as one tick for a very long time, you are probably blocked. But if it’s a single tick for a short period of time, the first thing that comes to your mind is that the other person’s phone might be switched off.
If you can’t add contacts to a chat group:
Finally, you cannot add someone who has blocked you to a new group chat. While existing group chats function normally, trying to add someone who has blocked you to a new chat group will result in a message explaining that you cannot do so. This is the most obvious indication that you have been blocked.
Of course, this is the surest way to test whether you are blocked or not, but if you are not blocked, it can be a bit difficult to explain this to the person. Because you are creating a group for no reason.
