Sometimes, on social media, we choose to mute accounts of people we follow because we don’t want to see their posts on our main feed. We do this either because they excessively share content or out of courtesy for people we follow. But what should we do if we want to reverse this situation? How to unmute a muted Instagram account? Step by step for iOS and Android!
To mute or unmute someone on Instagram, first, open the Instagram app on your Android or iPhone device, or open the Instagram Lite app if you’re using Android only. Then follow the steps suggested by Meta, which are shared below.
Muting or unmuting someone through messages:
- Tap on the
or icon in the top right corner of your feed. - Tap on the conversation with the person you want to mute/unmute.
- Tap on the person’s name at the top of the chat.
- Tap on the
or icon next to “Mute Messages” or “Mute Calls” to mute or unmute the person.
Muting or unmuting someone from their profile or story:
- Tap on the username or the + icon and search for the username to go to their profile.
- Tap on “Following” below their profile information.
- Tap on “Mute.”
- Tap on the + icon next to “Posts” or “Stories.”
- Tap on the username or the
icon and search for the username to go to their profile - Tap on “Following” below their profile information.
- Tap on “Mute.”
- Tap on the
icon next to “Posts” or “Stories.”
Muting an account from the feed or unmuting an account’s posts:
- Tap on the
(Android) or (iPhone) icon next to their posts. - Tap on “Hide.”
- Tap on “Mute [Username],” and then tap on “Mute Posts” or “Mute Posts and Story.”
Note: Instagram will not notify the person that you have muted them. Muting someone’s posts is different from unfollowing them or muting their stories.
