The secret of Huawei’s 5nm processor is solved!

Ana sayfa / Processor

Huawei, which lost blood in the smartphone world after the US embargo, is seeking to recover again. The brand, which attracted attention with the Mate 60 Pro Plus, attracted attention with its new Kirin 9006C processor. The processor, which appeared in the Huawei L450 laptop, went through the 5nm fabrication process. The interesting thing is that the processor is TSMC’s production. But did TSMC, which imposed an embargo on Huawei, break the embargo?

SMIC produced the 7nm Kirin 9000S processor that appears in the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus, which is trying to overcome the effects of the embargo. Recently, claims have emerged that the Chinese processor company is trying to switch to the 5nm fabrication process.

Huawei introduced a new Qinguyan L450 laptop for the Chinese market in December 2023. On the processor side of the model is the Kirin 9006CS, which goes through the 5nm fabrication process. Tech Insights, curious to know who this processor is manufactured by, opened the inside of the model.

The examination revealed that the processor is indeed TSMC production. However, the processor belongs to an old production technology of TSMC. In this sense, it is understood that Huawei is using the stock of 5nm processors. Huawei had made a significant stock of 5nm processors from TSMC before the embargo. The brand, which has not been able to use these processors sufficiently so far, seems to have found a new way.

Despite this, it is a matter of curiosity whether Huawei will switch to 5nm processors. The interesting thing is that according to the latest claims, SMIC has taken action not only for 5nm but also for 3nm processors. However, it is not known how true these claims are. It is also a matter of curiosity whether the brand, which has old-type lithography machines, will develop a healthy 3nm processor. This problem is likely to confront SMIC in 5nm processor production as well.

It is of strategic importance for both Huawei and China whether the company, which conducts these trials with a much more expensive method, will get a healthy result. You can find more detailed information about this expensive processor production in the news below.

So do you think Huawei can develop a 5nm processor and break the US embargo? We are waiting for your comments.
