Huawei has been drawing attention with its innovations to HarmonyOS in recent years. The latest data from China showed that it surpassed Apple’s iOS operating system for the first time. HarmonyOS became the most used mobile operating system right behind Android.
HarmonyOS surpassed iOS in China
According to the latest data from research firm Counterpoint Research, Huawei HarmonyOS has overtaken iOS to become the second most popular mobile operating system in China. The research covering the Chinese market revealed that HarmonyOS has reached historic figures.
HarmonyOS increased its market share from 8 percent in the first quarter of 2023 to 17 percent in the first quarter of 2024. iOS saw its market share drop from 20 percent to 16 percent in the same period. This means that sales of the iPhone 15 series are not at the expected level.
HarmonyOS surpassed iOS in usage rates in China for the first time. It has also become the country’s second largest mobile platform behind Android. Huawei points out that it has shown a great recovery, especially after being deprived of basic services due to US sanctions.
Android’s usage rate in the global market is around 77 percent. HarmonyOS, on the other hand, doubled the number of users compared to the previous year, from 2 percent to 4 percent. Globally, iOS usage is in second place with 19 percent.
Analysts predict Huawei will build on this momentum. Huawei, which attracted great attention with devices such as the Mate 60 and Pura 70 series, wants to bring HarmonyOS to laptops.
