Working in the shadow of U.S. sanctions, Huawei recently launched the Mate X5 and Mate 60 series. According to the latest information, the Nova 12 series is also expected to be unveiled very soon. The upcoming phones will be powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 830 processor, as per sources close to Huawei.

Huawei Nova 12 series turns to Kirin processor

The Kirin 830 processor is expected to deliver performance similar to the Kirin 9000s chip that powers flagship devices like the Mate X5 and Mate 60, in a sense, marking a return to the past when Huawei used its own Kirin chips in nearly all its smartphones before facing U.S. sanctions.

Before being affected by U.S. sanctions, Huawei used its own Kirin chips in almost all of its smartphones. However, in 2019, following the blacklist decision, Huawei had to switch to using Qualcomm chips, particularly for the mid-range 4G segment. The Nova series was also directly impacted by this change, transitioning to Snapdragon processors.

With the Huawei Nova 12 series, Huawei will be returning to using Kirin processors after a few years. However, it’s currently unclear whether the smartphones will support 5G. More detailed reports on this topic are expected to emerge in the coming months.
