On August 4th, Huawei announced its latest major update for its operating system, HarmonyOS. The HarmonyOS 4 is now available in Beta version for 34 Huawei devices, including smartphones and tablets. HarmonyOS 4 Beta brings several new features

According to official announcements and release notes, Huawei adds a lot of new features. Especially, the Live Window feature is one of the most expected ones, which is similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island. Thanks to the feature, you will be able to see real-time alerts and notifications via supported apps in a pill-shaped icon on the corner of your device. This feature is available on smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.

Here is the list of new features available in HarmonyOS 4 Beta:

  1. Personal theme: Customizable themes with stylized layouts and icon color selection for a personalized home screen.
  2. Interactive theme: Mood-based wallpapers with dynamic Emoji expressions and weather themes that react to gravity for an immersive experience.
  3. Live window: An upper-left corner resident feature displaying task progress even when the screen is locked, providing convenience.
  4. Notification Center: Clustered and sorted notifications, aggregating the same app’s notifications into dynamic cards for easy access.
  5. Super Transit Station: Two-finger press to identify, select, and drag text and images into a temporary storage area for efficient content sharing.
  6. Ark Engine: Enhanced engine for a smoother overall user experience.
  7. Application Control Center: Card-based design to proactively manage app permissions, restrict risky apps, and create a secure app environment.
  8. Application Tracking Management: Privacy center, allowing specific app tracking activities to be disabled as per user preference.
  9. Children’s Remote Guardian: Family sharing function to monitor child’s device location, manage usage duration, and ensure safety.
  10. Elderly Care: Optimized enlarged display effects for better usability and comfort for elderly users.
