After being blacklisted by the United States in 2019, Huawei was prohibited from using Google services and important technologies, including 5G. During this period, the company lost a significant portion of its market share to competitors, prompting them to take serious measures to prevent the situation from worsening, such as the development of HarmonyOS. One of the most significant challenges during this time was that Huawei’s flagship phones couldn’t use 5G. However, it seems that this situation has largely changed because the company is now actively working on making 5G a standard in the coming periods.

Huawei’s new foldable phone will come with 5G

In recent weeks, Huawei unexpectedly unveiled its 5G-enabled Mate 60 series. This means that the company is using 5G technologies for the first time since the U.S. ban, and recent reports suggest that this technology will become a standard in the future.

According to sources close to the company, work is underway on the successor to the Huawei Pocket S, which was introduced in 2022. This foldable phone, designed to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series, will also incorporate 5G technology. The name and specifications of the device are not yet known, but it will be the first 5G-enabled foldable phone to come out after the sanctions were imposed.

However, the company still cannot use Google services, which is a significant issue, especially for users in Europe. We will have to wait and see what steps will be taken in the future regarding this issue.
