As the automotive industry moves towards electric cars, the sound of engines and the thrill of shifting gears are in danger of being lost. But Hyundai wants to preserve that excitement in its latest electric model. The special edition Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will have a “fake” engine sound and the feel of shifting gears.
Hyundai will simulate gear changes in the Ioniq 5 N
Hyundai has installed an interesting feature in the Ioniq 5 N. It has installed 10 speakers inside and outside the car to mimic the sound of the petrol engine and exhaust. Called N Active Sound+, it brings the sound of a petrol engine to the electric car.
In addition to the classic combustion engine sound, there will be other options. Hyundai says there will be fun engine sound options for drivers, including a “supersonic” theme inspired by fighter jets.
In addition to the engine sound, it will also simulate the gear changes of a gas-powered car. Unlike electric vehicles with a single-speed transmission, the Ioniq 5 N will have a configuration that mimics the feeling of shifting gears as the vehicle accelerates.
The overall performance of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is also impressive. With Grin Boost on, the N produces 478 kW / 650 hp. The car can turn 21,000 revolutions and has an advanced thermal management system for the battery, engine oil and battery cooler.
A similar move has already been made by Toyota. According to a patent filed last month, Toyota will create the sensation of a “fake clutch”. This will appeal to drivers who like to drive stick-shift cars.
