Apple is planning significant changes in the production of its iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. Previously, it was reported that Apple would expand production in India and, for the first time, assemble the Pro series iPhones there. However, Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives suggests that this may not happen. Here are the details…
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max Production: Will It Stay in China or Move to India?
The analyst believes that while India could produce some basic models and other Apple hardware, the production of high-end models like the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will likely remain in China. Ives states, “The iPhone 16 could be one of the most important launches for Apple in the past decade. Therefore, ensuring a flawless supply chain is crucial.”
He also mentions that India may not be able to provide Apple with complete assurance during this critical process. Besides the iPhone 16 Pro and Max this year, Apple had only assembled the basic version of the iPhone 15 in India, with the iPhone 15 Plus model being produced later.
According to Counterpoint data, Apple holds only 6% of the smartphone market in India but commands a 23% share in revenue as of 2023. This makes Apple the leader, surpassing Samsung’s 21% market share.
In 2023, Apple sold over 10 million iPhones in India, compared to 6 million in 2022. A change in Apple’s production location could have significant impacts in both the Indian and Chinese markets. However, uncertainties regarding the production of high-end models remain.
