Instagram may soon offer users the opportunity to gain early access to new features, such as AI-powered chat themes. A leaked screenshot hints at upcoming changes that could allow users to experience new functionalities before they are officially rolled out. This new setting, dubbed “Early access to features,” was revealed by mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi, who is known for uncovering unreleased Instagram features.

According to Paluzzi, Instagram is developing AI-powered chat themes and giving users the chance to preview new features early. The upcoming feature, tentatively called “Create with AI,” will enable users to craft personalized chat themes using advanced AI algorithms. This innovation aligns Instagram with its sibling platform WhatsApp, which is also working on similar AI-driven chat theme features.

Diverse chat theme options

Currently, Instagram provides a variety of chat themes, including colors, gradients, and themes inspired by popular games, artists, and movies. Users can easily change their chat theme on both Android and iOS by navigating to their Instagram DMs inbox, opening a chat, tapping on the chat name, and selecting “Themes.” Available themes include those inspired by Minecraft, Pickleball, Dune, Star Wars, Football, Baseball, and more, allowing users to customize their chat experience for different conversations.

Early access to features: A game-changer?

The leaked screenshot introduces the possibility of an “Early access to features” option within the Settings and Activity page of the Instagram app. Traditionally, Instagram has relied on limited testing phases and public announcements to inform users about new features. The introduction of this new setting could mark a shift towards a more inclusive approach, similar to platforms like YouTube and Google, which offer experimental feature programs such as YouTube Experiments and Google Search Labs.
