Meta reportedly wants to generate more revenue from social media platforms. Accordingly, Instagram’s interface will display unskippable ads. However, a new study revealed that users will delete the app due to unskippable ads.

Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, has always relied on advertising. Now, with its new feature, Ad Break, Instagram is interrupting your browsing pleasure and exposing you to forced ads.

Instagram could face a massive loss of users if the ad tests become permanent. A new survey by PR Week found that the controversial feature will do more harm than good.

More than half of the users surveyed said they would delete Instagram if they saw unskippable ads while watching Reels. Accordingly, the new ad break format being tested by the company disrupts users’ scrolling experience.

Today, standard Instagram ads appear between posts. However, these ads can be skipped while scrolling. However, the survey results revealed that ads that cannot be skipped can cause major problems.

For Instagram and parent company Meta, new formats like unskippable ads could help boost ad revenue. But the survey found that more than 50 percent of users could abandon the platform.

Meta CFO Susan Li also said that Instagram is exploring new ad technologies. However, users who are unhappy with unskippable formats may leave the platform, undermining these revenue targets.
