The x86 architecture, which underpins the digital age and powers billions of devices, is entering a new era. Intel and AMD are joining forces to shape the future of the architecture and adapt to rapidly changing technology.

Intel and AMD, two giants of the computing world, have announced the formation of the x86 Ecosystem Advisory Group to guide the future of the x86 architecture. The new organization will bring together industry leaders to guide the evolution of the x86 processor architecture.

For more than 40 years, the x86 instruction set has been the standard of computing, powering billions of computers and servers. Workloads have evolved with new demands such as artificial intelligence, customized hardware designs and advanced packaging technologies. Ensuring the continued growth and compatibility of the x86 ecosystem is now more critical.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 takes the top spot in multi-core performance

The performance differences between Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Dimensity 9400 and Apple's A18 Pro processors have been revealed.

The advisory group will consist of senior executives from Intel and AMD, as well as key industry players such as Microsoft, Google, Dell, Lenovo, Oracle and Red Hat. Their goal will be to gather feedback from hardware and software engineers on key architectural improvements.

This will facilitate the implementation of new x86 features across all sectors: data centers, cloud, client devices, edge computing and embedded systems.

The group’s key goals include increasing customer choice and compatibility, simplifying development through standard programming models and interfaces. It will also ensure the integration of the latest capabilities into operating systems and applications.
