Intel has officially launched the Core 5 120 and Core 5 120F, the new members of its Core 100 series. Although listed under the Raptor Lake umbrella, the new processors are technically based on the Alder Lake architecture. These two models share a nearly identical hardware architecture to the Core i5-12400, which was released in 2022 and is still widely used.
Intel Core 5 120 and 120F Unveiled
The Core 5 120 and 120F use the LGA1700 socket. Both models feature only performance cores, offering a 6-core, 12-thread architecture. These processors lack efficiency cores. This architecture closely matches the i5-12400 family. The processors feature 7.5MB of L2 and 18MB of L3 cache.
Technical differences are quite limited. The Core 5 120 series, with a maximum turbo frequency of up to 4.5 GHz, slightly surpasses the i5-12400’s 4.4 GHz limit. Maximum power consumption has been reduced from 117W to 110W.
On the graphics front, only the Core 5 120 model features integrated graphics. This model, equipped with the UHD Graphics 730 GPU, lists the boost frequency of the graphics unit as 1.5 GHz. The Core 5 120F model, like previous F-series processors, is offered without integrated graphics. Both models have a base frequency of 2.5 GHz and a maximum frequency of 4.5 GHz.
Regarding memory support, the processors are compatible with DDR5-4800 dual-channel architecture. Supporting a maximum memory capacity of 192 GB, the processors have a TDP of 65W. In turbo mode, they can reach up to 110W.
Rather than redesigning the architecture and technical infrastructure for these new processors, Intel is reshaping its product portfolio by updating its naming system. This is considered an extension of the new modeling system introduced with Meteor Lake.
Intel has not yet made an official announcement regarding pricing. However, considering the $221 launch price of the i5-12400, which will be released in 2022, the Core 5 120 is expected to be offered at a similar price point. The Core 5 120F, which lacks a graphics unit, will be available at a more affordable price.
