Intel recently announced that it would be abandoning the Core i brand. A new report has now revealed how the Core i models will be renamed. The company aims to differentiate between Core i5, i7, and i9 with this naming change.

Intel Core i is going away, Core and Core Ultra are coming

Intel has confirmed that its iconic “i” brand, including processors such as Core i9, Core i7, Core i5, and Core i3, will be removed. This decision will be evident in the upcoming 14th Generation Meteor Lake family, expected to be announced in the coming months. As a result, some of the new models will be named Core Ultra.

Christopher Hirsch, Intel’s Brand Director, stated that some industry professionals already use the term “Core” instead of names like i5 or i7. To eliminate this confusion, the iconic “Core i” brand will be removed.

Intel will transition to the Core Ultra nomenclature for its high-performance processors. These processors will stand out with their artificial intelligence capabilities and top-level graphics performance.

By removing the “i” letter, Intel aims to reposition its brand. Additionally, the company wants to simplify model names. For example, the i7 models in the Meteor Lake series will be named Core 7 or Core Ultra 7.

The company also shared some examples of the new naming convention. Core Ultra 9 1090H will represent a laptop processor with integrated graphics, while Core Ultra 7 1070K will represent a desktop processor focused on overclocking. Furthermore, Core 5 1050U will be a mid-range laptop processor with low power consumption.
