With Euro 2024, football enthusiasm has doubled all over the world. A study conducted in the UK revealed that smartphones are unexpectedly damaged while watching football matches. Almost half of fans damage their devices during matches.

A new survey by UK-based GSM operator Three has revealed that taking smartphones to matches can be dangerous. According to the survey results, the rate of damage to phones during matches among football fans is around 30 percent.

Among fans surveyed by Three, 59 percent admitted to breaking their smartphone at least once during a match. The most common types of damage were cracked screen (51 percent), crushed/scratched (42 percent) and spilled liquid (20 percent).

Research has shown that taking a phone into a stadium invites all kinds of accidents. But the risk does not seem to be limited to stadiums. Celebrations around the stadium can also be dangerous. Accordingly, 38 percent of the reported damages occurred around the stadium.

Even watching the game at home can sometimes lead to broken phones. Accordingly, 20 percent of fans reported damaging their phones while watching the match in the living room.

The research shows that smartphones can cost football fans dearly, despite the use of cases and screen protectors. In this context, it was recommended to double check phones while watching Euro 2024 matches.
