The number of users of Threads, Meta’s rival app to X, is increasing daily. Instagram President Adam Mosseri recently announced the platform’s current user count.
Threads surpasses 400 million monthly active users
Two years after its launch, Threads has surpassed 400 million monthly active users. This announcement, made by Instagram President Adam Mosseri, is also a significant detail regarding the competition with X.
In his statement, Mosseri stated that Threads began as a wild idea to compete with Twitter and has evolved over time into a meaningful platform that fosters an open exchange of perspectives.
This latest announcement shows that Threads gained 50 million monthly users in the last quarter. As you may recall, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in April that the platform had reached over 350 million monthly active users.
According to previous statements by former X CEO Linda Yaccarino, Elon Musk’s social media platform has over 600 million monthly active users.
Recent data from market research firm Similarweb reveals that Threads is approaching X in daily app users on mobile devices. In June 2025, Threads’ iOS and Android mobile apps saw 115.1 million daily active users, a 127.8 percent increase compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, X saw a 15.2 percent year-over-year decrease to 132 million daily active users.
However, Similarweb found that X still surpasses Threads in global daily web visits. While X averaged 145.8 million daily web visits globally in June, Threads’ daily web visits were only 6.9 million.
