Apple is set to roll out iOS 17.2 to eligible iPhone models before the end of the year. The update is expected to introduce a new app called Journal, allowing iPhone users to journal on their smartphones daily. Additionally, some unexpected changes are also emerging.
iOS 17.2 will enhance the cameras of iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
Apple has discontinued the feature called “Collaborative Playlists” for Apple Music due to concerns about misuse and spam. Apple has not abandoned this feature but is working on a way to limit the number of “pending requests” a user can receive.
The concern here is that allowing iPhone users to have collaborative Apple Music playlists requires having a toggle switch that lets them decide who can contribute to the playlists and who cannot. Failure to enable this switch could allow a malicious individual with the playlist link to sabotage it.
The iOS 17.2 update will also ensure compatibility with the updated Qi2 wireless charging standard for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models. Qi2 supports wireless charging at speeds of up to 15W. With the update, iPhone users won’t have to purchase more expensive MagSafe-certified chargers to achieve 15W wireless charging speeds.
According to the release notes for the iOS 17.2 Release Candidate (RC) version aimed at developers, users of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have “improved telephoto camera focus speed when capturing distant small objects.”
With the camera being able to focus on such objects more quickly, it is expected that the quality of telephoto photos taken with the new iPhone Pro models will be improved, making it easier to capture such photos.
The iOS 17.2 update will also enable iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to shoot spatial videos. These will be immersive 3D video clips that make the viewer feel like they are reliving the moment recorded while wearing the upcoming Vision Pro glasses. The latter is expected to be released, most likely in March.
