Apple’s latest iOS 18 update delivers a feature iPhone users have been eagerly awaiting for years: iPhone call recording and decryption directly within the Phone app. This isn’t just about capturing conversations; iOS 18 also introduces a groundbreaking decryption tool that can generate transcripts, making it a must-have for both business and personal use.
How It Works
During an active call, users will see a new record button. With a single tap, the recording begins. Importantly, all participants are notified that the call is being recorded, ensuring transparency. Once the call ends, the recording automatically saves to the Notes app, providing easy access and organization.
But Apple didn’t stop there. The new AI Summary feature leverages Apple Intelligence to create a concise summary of the key points discussed. This innovation allows users to quickly review conversations or find specific details without sifting through entire recordings.
Limitations and Availability
While the call recording and transcription features are part of iOS 18, there are some limitations to note. The AI Summary function is only available on newer iPhone models, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Additionally, call transcripts are currently limited to the following languages:
- English: (US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore)
- Spanish: (USA, Mexico, Spain)
- French: (France)
- German: (Germany)
- Japanese: (Japan)
- Mandarin Chinese: (mainland China, Taiwan)
- Cantonese: (mainland China, Hong Kong)
- Portuguese: (Brazil)
These limitations mean not all users will have immediate access to the full range of features, but the list of supported languages is expected to expand in future updates.
When to expect iPhone call recording
The call recording and transcript features are slated to be available with the official release of iOS 18 this autumn. Although these capabilities haven’t yet appeared in the iOS 18 developer beta, they are anticipated to be part of the final version.
