Apple has released iOS 26.2 beta 3, the highly anticipated next software update for iPhone users. This preview release introduces a number of innovations and improvements that will significantly change cross-device interaction and the user experience. Particularly noteworthy are the ability to generate single-use codes for AirDrop and support for third-party voice assistants that can replace Siri.

One of the most significant innovations introduced in iOS 26.2 Beta 3 is AirDrop codes. This feature allows you to share files via AirDrop for 30 days, even with someone not yet listed in your contacts. Users can securely perform this transfer by generating a single-use code from the AirDrop section of the Settings app.

Another major potential change coming with the update is support for third-party voice assistants that can replace Siri. Users in Japan, in particular, will be given the option to assign an external voice-based assistant, such as Google Gemini, to Siri by holding down the iPhone’s side button. This detail, found in developer documentation, suggests Apple may initially limit this feature to certain regions.

iOS 26.2 beta 3 not only brings major features but also improvements to existing apps. The “Level” tool in the Measurement app now has a brand new design inspired by “Liquid Glass.” This new design includes tweaks to make measurement values appear clearer. Furthermore, the ability to set alarms and timers for urgent reminders has been added to the Shortcuts app. This feature allows notifications to bypass Focus mode for maximum visibility.

There’s also a significant improvement for iPad users. Starting with iPadOS 26.2 beta 3, users can now instantly switch to Slide Over or Split View multitasking modes by dragging an app icon out of the Dock. This functionality brings back one of the most beloved features from previous versions of iPadOS and makes the multitasking experience much smoother.

The Sleep Score system has been overhauled, with the top rating renamed from “Excellent” to “Very High,” and thresholds for general categories have been adjusted based on feedback. The Apple Podcasts app has been enhanced with improvements like automatic episode creation using AI, linking to mentioned podcasts, and aggregating show links. The Apple News app has also been further refined, offering quick links to popular episodes.
