Apple introduced the new artificial intelligence, Apple Intelligence supported iOS 18 with the WWDC 24 event in June. In recent weeks, the company released iOS 17.6, the last iOS 17 update before iOS 18. New reports show the bug that covers iOS 17.6, iOS 18 and iOS 18.1 and causes iOS to crash.
App Library issue causing iOS to crash
This week, a security researcher found a vulnerability in Spotlight Search and App Library in iOS that causes iOS to crash. The bug does not cause iOS to completely shut down or fail to boot. When you enter the characters ‘’::: in App Library or Spotlight, a black screen appears and your phone reboots on the lock screen.
In the action in question, there is no complete shutdown of the phone or closing of the open programmes. Only the phone returns to the lock screen. When you type the characters in Spotlight and App Library, you get different reactions depending on the iOS version. When tested with the latest version of iOS 17, the phone reboots without any freezing. However, when tested with iOS 18 and iOS 18.1, which are still in beta, the search bar freezes for a very short time.
A similar bug appeared in 2015. This error called Effective Power, when a certain message was detected in the messages application, the application would first crash and then the iPhone would restart itself. This error, which was on the agenda at the time, was a more serious problem than the error that exists now. Because the error at that time caused the iPhone to crash again when someone else sent you a message. Apple is expected to release a new update as soon as possible to solve this problem.
