Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 next month, but rumors of potential production disruptions involving key components like the display and camera have become confusing. Although the phone is highly likely to be unveiled in September, analyst Jeff Pu suggests that Apple is scaling back production of the new flagship.
Apple may produce the iPhone 15 in limited quantities at first!
According to a message sent to investors, Pu states that Apple’s iPhone 15 production target by the end of the year has been reduced from 83 million units to 77 million units. This could be called a limited number, as it means producing 77 million units of the iPhone’s newest device in a world population of 8 billion people.
Analyst Pu cites two key factors contributing to this revision. First, supply chain challenges are expected to persist and undermine mass production of the iPhone 15. In particular, Pu points out that the integration of Sony’s camera sensors, the implementation of a new titanium frame for Pro models, and the inclusion of a new display with thinner bezels could lead to delays in the production process.
In addition, Pu speculates that Apple is changing its sales forecasts due to concerns about demand. Speculation is that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with higher price tags than their predecessors, potentially leading to reduced demand.
According to Pu, the reduced production plan ahead of the launch is not an encouraging sign, and the potential price increase for the iPhone 15 Pro Max could further reduce overall demand.
In Apple’s Q3 earnings report for fiscal year 2023, the company reported a decline in iPhone sales revenue to $39.67 billion from $40.67 billion. In a call with investors, Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that the company has seen a decline in iPhone sales in its primary market, the US, despite more positive results in some other regions.
