Repairability is becoming an increasingly important issue in the smartphone world. In this context, it has been stated that Apple may make the battery replacement process easier with the iPhone 17 series. The company may adopt technology that allows battery replacement at home.
iPhone 17 battery will be much easier to remove
According to the claims of Majin Bu, known for his Apple leaks, the company will start to make it easier for users to replace the battery with the iPhone 17 series, which is expected to be released next year. The main reason for this will be the recycling and e-waste policies implemented in Europe.
For years, removing the iPhone’s batteries required special tools and repair kits due to the fact that they were glued to the device. This made battery replacement expensive for many users. Sources, on the other hand, report that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models may adopt the battery technology used in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
For those who don’t know, this technology uses a low-voltage electric current to break the adhesive, allowing the batteries to be removed with a simple power source such as a 9V battery or a USB-C charger. In other words, Apple allows users to change their batteries even at home.
Thanks to the company’s new decision, battery replacements can be done without the need for an Apple Store or authorized service. This could reduce repair costs and extend the life of the device.
Although not confirmed by Apple, the alleged plans are in line with the company’s sustainability and user-focused approach in recent years.
